About the museum
The Sherry Gallery is the museum dedicated to the wines of the Marco de Jerez and to Jerez brandy. It occupies the first two floors of the Palacio San Dionisio, on the Plaza de la Asunción in the heart of the historic centre. It opened in 2025 and is run by the company Centro Cultural Palacio de San Dionisio. The space covers more than 1,200 m².
The building was constructed in 1837 as a royal jail (Cárcel Real). During the economic boom of the 19th century it was bought by a Jerez winemaker, who turned it into a private residence; it later became known as the Palacio de la Condesa de Casares, a meeting place for Jerez society. Today it is a cultural centre, and the first two floors retain their original structure during their conversion into a museum.
The route through the rooms explains the origin and evolution of Jerez wine, the vineyards and their estates (pagos), production and ageing, cooperage, bottling, aromas, labels and brandy. It combines historical rigour, scientific outreach, audiovisual projections and tactile and sensory elements. The visit can be complemented with commented tastings of two or four wines, or with the long-aged VOS and VORS wines.
