About the museum
Sala Kubo opened in 2000 on the lower level of the Kursaal, the building designed by Rafael Moneo at the mouth of the Urumea river. It belongs to Kutxa Fundazioa, the foundation of the Gipuzkoan financial institution, and has around 1,000 square metres of exhibition space.
The hall has no permanent collection. Its programme is devoted to large-format temporary exhibitions of contemporary visual and plastic arts. It combines international projects with proposals from the local area, in the form of retrospectives of major contemporary artists and group exhibitions based on different ideas about today's art. Each show is accompanied by guided and commented visits, conversations with artists and family workshops.
Kubo also serves as a meeting place for artists, specialists and the public. Admission is free, and the hall closes on Mondays. The access rules require children under 14 to be accompanied by an adult and do not allow large bags, large umbrellas or animals, except guide dogs and emotional support animals with certification.
