About the museum
Årnäs museum is in the manager’s villa opposite the former glassworks in Årnäs, on Lake Vänern in Götene Municipality. The museum is privately owned and run, and presents two themes: the medieval castle of Aranäs and the glassworks at Årnäs.
One room displays finds from two archaeological excavations of the medieval castle complex of Aranäs, together with information, pictures and a model of how the royal castle may have looked. The other room contains objects from glass production at the Årnäs bruk (works) from 1802 to 1960, as well as glass made at the Årnäs glassworks and other glassworks of the same period. There is also a model of how the works looked at the beginning of the 20th century.
From the museum it is a few hundred metres’ walk to the ruins of Aranäs castle.
