Aktiveum

About the museum

Aktiveum is run by Ankarsrums hembygdsförening (local heritage society) and is located in the works village of Ankarsrum in Västervik municipality. The place is known for Ankarsrums bruk (ironworks), whose history the society documents from 1655 onwards, with early Walloon smiths, several works owners and the later period with Electrolux until 2001.

The local heritage society opens Aktiveum and the homestead museum to the public in summer, and at other times viewings can be booked. The society also offers guided tours of Bruksparken (the works park).

The society's website describes the community's development, its buildings past and present and the traditions of the place, and the museum is part of the work to preserve the local industrial history.
