About the museum
At the outflow of Gapern lay Forsnäs bruk (Forsnäs Ironworks), one of Värmland's many ironworks, between 1628 and 1865. Of the works, today there remain the saw, a water-driven frame saw, and the foundations of the mill. The saw building is probably from 1818 and was restored in 1981. The saw is owned and run by Alsters sockens hembygdsförening (Alster Parish Local Heritage Society), which shows and runs it for the public once a year on Sawing Day (Sågens dag), when a log is sawn in the old frame saw.
