About the museum
Gällivare hembygdsområde (Gällivare local heritage area) lies centrally in Gällivare by the Vassara älv. The land is a gift from Gällivare Municipality, and the area is owned and run by Gellivare sockens hembygdsförening (Gellivare parish local heritage association).
Buildings from various villages in the municipality have been gathered on the site, many of them moved there between 1950 and 1980. Together they show how the parish developed from the mid-19th century. Among the buildings are Yrttivaaragården (Yrttivaara farm) from 1887, moved here in 1949; Ullattigården (Ullatti farm) from 1869, formerly a coaching inn (gästgiveri); the English barracks from the 1880s; the Baltiska stallet (Baltic stable) from 1901; Gällivare's first shop (handelsbod) from the 1870s; a windmill from Yrttivaara; and the Missionshuset (Mission House).
The association organises traditional events on the site, such as National Day celebrations, midsummer and a Christmas market. In the Bagarstugan (bakery cottage), which was built in 2015–2016, bread is baked, among other things for sale.

The association organises a spring café and a Sunday café on certain occasions.
Events & venue rental
The association rents out Ullatti farm and the Baltic stable to associations and for some family gatherings. Rentals are temporarily paused until and including 31 March 2027.
