About the museum
The school museum is in Murjek's homestead (hembygdsgård), a historic seminary building erected in 1904. Until 1934 folk school teachers were trained here, and after that the village's children went to school in the building. The building lies three minutes' walk from Murjek railway station, which grew up along the Malmbanan (the Iron Ore Line) midway between Boden and Gällivare.
Today the homestead is run by Murjeks hembygdsförening (Murjek Local Heritage Society) and contains, in addition to the school museum, a dining hall with a lunch restaurant and café, the municipality's library and a hostel that is open all year round. The association's task is to act as a meeting point for villagers and other associations in the village.
The museum had about 120 visitors in 2025, and individual guided tours are arranged outside the regular opening hours. The website does not yet have a detailed presentation of the school museum's collections.
