About the museum
Kin is short for Konstmuseet i norr (Art Museum in the North). The activity began in 2009 as Konstmuseet i Norr, a county-wide art project run by Region Norrbotten and Kiruna Municipality. In 2017 it became a municipal association and was given the name Kin, and the museum opened its premises in 2018.
The museum collects and shows contemporary art with the Barents Region as its starting point, and works both in its own premises and in projects and exhibitions across Norrbotten's fourteen municipalities. The principal organisers are Kiruna Municipality and Region Norrbotten. Kin is Sweden's northernmost art museum.
The museum has its own collection, which grows with new works every year. Children and young people are a priority target group, and in Konstverkstan (Art Workshop) in Stadshuset Kristallen, activities, workshops and visits are arranged for children, young people and adults.
