About the museum
Meken-Minnet is a working-life museum that tells the story of Lidköpings Mekaniska Verkstad (Lidköping Mechanical Workshop), founded in 1875, and its products, above all grinding machines. All machines made have the name Lidköping cast into the machine frame. The association Meken-Minnet created the museum and looks after it.
The first museum was set up on the initiative of Bo Hjelmqvist for an open house on 6 December 1992, when about 900 people visited Lidköping Machine Tools. The collections have since moved to new premises. The museum has had to give up two rooms to Campus Västra Skaraborg and is therefore somewhat cramped; the association has supplemented it with a digital museum on the web about the company’s development from 1875 to the present.
