About the museum
Naturum Vänerskärgården – Victoriahuset is at the far end of Kållandsö, right next to Läckö Castle. The building is a symbolic gift from Västra Götaland to Crown Princess Victoria on her 30th birthday, and the Crown Princess is the patron of the house. The building was designed by White Arkitekter in Gothenburg, with a visual language inspired by the reeds and driftwood of Lake Vänern, and it replaced an older building called Hvita Hjorten.
In the same building, besides the naturum, are the hotel and restaurant Läckö Wärdshus and a reception. The naturum acts as a gateway to the Djurö national park in Lake Vänern and to other nature areas around the lake. It is situated at the castle and not at the national park’s entrance, because Djurö lies in the middle of Lake Vänern. The area is also part of the UNESCO biosphere reserve Kinnekulle with Vänerskärgården and of the Platåberg Geopark.
The exhibition was produced by Stiftelsen Läckö slott (Läckö Castle Foundation), and the texts were produced by Vänermuseet in Lidköping. Here visitors can look at, read about and listen to the inhabitants of Lake Vänern, who tell small stories from their everyday lives. In spring and autumn there are Thursday lectures, during the school holidays a small-creature safari, a treasure walk (tipspromenad) and an animal hunt, and in summer guided boat tours and kayaking with a naturum guide are offered.
