About the museum
Ådala in Norrsundet was completed in 1898 and was originally used as a school. The building today houses Norrsundets Arbetarmuseum (Norrsundet Workers’ Museum), which is run by the non-profit Kulturföreningen Norrsundets Arbetarmuseum (Norrsundet Workers’ Museum Cultural Association), formed in 1983. The association’s task is to preserve and bring to life Norrsundet’s cultural heritage.
The museum shows the development of the local labour movement and highlights living and working conditions during industrialisation in the 19th and 20th centuries. The collection consists of old objects and ship models, including by Anders Åberg, and the house contains, among other things, an exhibition hall, a schoolroom and a 1950s room.
Ådala is also known for its open-air theatre. The theatre tradition began in 1980 when Jan Westlund read Per Wikberg’s book “De Bröto byggd”, and since then local amateurs and professionals have performed on the site for over forty years. The association also organises art exhibitions and other events.
