Wij Valsverk

About the museum

The Wij rolling mill (valsverk) was established in 1797 by the Nötboån river just south of Ockelbo and was part of the Ockelboverken (Ockelbo works). The Wij farm was a manor (säteri) formed in the 1600s, and in the 1800s the operation came under the Kopparfors forestry company. The rolling mill was closed in the 1930s, and everything was left as it was.

For many years the building stood empty and slowly fell into decay. In 1980 a foundation was formed to take on the building, and over time it has become an unusually intact industrial museum. The building is also used as a setting for concerts, parties and art exhibitions.

The rolling mill lies in the area of Wij Trädgårdar (Wij Gardens), which is run by Stiftelsen Wij Trädgårdar (the Wij Gardens Foundation), with Ockelbo Municipality as the property owner. Nearby are, among others, EKO-fiket (the EKO café), Turbin Konsthantverk, EKO-torget (the EKO square) and Wijdammen (the Wij pond).

Admission to Wij Trädgårdar 2026: adult SEK 130, senior 65+ SEK 100, season pass SEK 250 (senior SEK 200). Free admission under 18; free season pass for residents registered in Ockelbo Municipality. Pre-booked guided tours for groups in Wij Trädgårdar: 45 minutes SEK 2,000, 70 minutes SEK 2,500 (admission charged in addition).
