About the museum
Obbola fiskarmuseum (Obbola Fishermen's Museum) lies by the fishing harbour in Byviken in Obbola village, among the old boathouses and next to Gamla Salteriet (the Old Salt House). The museum was inaugurated on 8 June 2014 and is run jointly by Obbola hembygdsförening (Obbola local heritage society) and Obbola fiskareförening (Obbola fishermen's association). It was made possible by grants from the Leader project URnära and with help from Västerbottens museum.
The exhibition portrays Obbola's history of fishing and seal hunting through old objects, texts and pictures. The museum's website, created by the local heritage society, covers among other things equipment and gear, boat types in Obbola, seal hunting and winter fishing, as well as photographs and life stories.
