About the museum
Onkel Adamsgården at Hunnebergsgatan 30 A in Linköping is one of the town's best-preserved town farms. During the 18th century the population of Sweden grew and more and more people moved to the towns, and then a new type of wooden house began to be built. The residential building is probably from the 1790s, and the farm bears the date 1795.
The farm is named after the doctor and author Carl Anton Wetterbergh (1804–1889), who wrote under the pseudonym Onkel Adam (Uncle Adam). He was one of the country's best-known authors in his lifetime and from 1862 published the children's magazine Linnéa. The Wetterbergh couple moved to Linköping in 1867, where Hedda's sister Adriana already lived; it was the sisters who owned the property.
On the farm there are red wooden houses from the 18th and 19th centuries: a carriage shed with a cellar, a stable with a hay loft and storehouse, a woodshed, a goat pen and an outhouse, as well as a simple summer house in the garden. On the upper floor of the residential building there is a museum flat with furniture and ornaments that belonged to the Wetterbergh family; the flat was fitted out as a museum in 1927. The garden was restored in 2002–2003 after an archaeological garden investigation and broadly reflects an older town garden. The farm is owned and shown by Östergötlands museum (Östergötland Museum).
