About the museum
Plans for a graphic arts museum in Linköping existed as early as the 1980s, in order to preserve graphic history as computers replaced the old machines. The foundation was laid on 30 August 1994, when an interim board was formed with representatives of both employers and employees in the industry. The first museum opened on 22 May 1996 in a small premises at Rådmansgatan 10.
The present premises at Rådmansgatan 3 were ready on 7 May 1999 and were inaugurated by the county governor (landshövding) Björn Eriksson. The exhibition section was added later, and in 2014 an extension of 40 square metres was built towards Vallaskogen. For the 25th anniversary in 2019, a book about the museum was published.
The museum is a living museum in which old machines and hot-metal typesetting are used to produce printed matter in the same way as from the 1500s to around 1980. All staff work on a voluntary basis.
