About the museum
Polismuseet is located in Stockholm and has existed in its present form since 2007. The museum is part of the Swedish Police Authority and has the task of conveying knowledge about police work, especially to children and young people. It looks after the police’s cultural heritage by developing, caring for and making the museum’s collections accessible.
Starting from the shared history of the police, the museum explains how the police’s role and work have changed in step with society. The museum wants to give a varied and nuanced picture of the police profession throughout Sweden and often deals with difficult questions and sensitive subjects.
The activities include the museum’s own exhibitions, tours and recurring programmes in its premises. Each year the educators welcome over 800 school classes and produce teaching material on current topics for teachers and other adults. According to the museum itself, it has more than 70,000 visitors a year.
