About the museum

The Tekniska museet (Technical Museum) started in 1924 and has since then made it a priority to show how curiosity, creativity and cooperation can solve great challenges. The museum is on Museivägen on Norra Djurgården, in the middle of the Nationalstadsparken (National City Park), and offers just over 12,000 square metres of exhibitions, activities, debate stages and courses.

The collection of technical-historical objects, archive material and images is unique in the world and helps visitors understand how today's society has developed. The exhibitions range from Drömlandet (Dreamland), which tells how a poor country on the edge of Europe became a global technology nation, to Gruvan (The Mine), an environment with narrow mine tunnels, and Subject: Hello, about 200 years of communications technology.

In the inner courtyard is Wisdome Stockholm, a science theatre and experience arena in wood with enveloping 3D visualisations. The museum also runs activities outside the building: Tekniska on Tour visits schools and other venues, the branch The Cell in Hagastaden is a meeting place for science and art, and since May 2025 Tekniska i Tensta, a permanent branch for mathematics for children and young people aged 6 to 19, has existed.

Highlights

  • Drömlandet – Sweden's road to becoming a technology nation
  • MegaMind with almost 50 stations
  • Wisdome Stockholm – fulldome and planetarium
