About the museum
Umeå Energicentrum is built around Klabböle hydroelectric power station, Umeå's first hydroelectric plant, about 8 km west of Umeå city centre on the south side of the Ume River (Umeälven). The power station was designed by the engineering firm Qvist & Gjers and was built in 1898–1899 to replace the steam power station then in the town of Umeå. It was extended in 1910 and 1932 and was closed when the Stornorrfors power station came into use in 1958.
The facility is today run by the municipal energy company Umeå Energi as a power station museum and day-trip destination. The museum tells how electricity came to Umeå. On the site there is, among other things, the old power unit from Sävar power station, which was moved there in 1995, as well as the Rislidensågen (Rislidens sawmill) and the mill from the closed Baggbölesågen (Baggböle sawmill). In the Cementboden a photo exhibition about the history of Umeå is shown, with pictures from Västerbottens museum.
In addition to the museum section there is an experiment and recycling workshop, an adventure playground, Kafé Maskinisten and barbecue areas. During the summer, free activities for the whole family are organised, such as midsummer celebrations, guided tours, yoga in the park and activities by the river.
