About the museum
Uppsala industriminnesförening (Uppsala Industrial Heritage Association) wants to highlight and care for the industrial cultural heritage of a city that for many years was a lively industrial town, from the 1860s to the 1970s. Bicycles, motorcycles, outboard motors, shoes, soap, textiles and foodstuffs were manufactured here, and there were brickworks, a ceramics industry and much else. The association's background is 1997, when Uppsala mejeri (Uppsala Dairy) was to be closed down.
The association's most important activity has been the permanent museum on Salagatan, which for a long time was in the old factory building of Nymans Verkstäder and around the turn of the year 2021/22 moved to the old police station at Salagatan 18 B. The exhibitions told of the food industry, with, among others, Slotts and Uppsala mejeri, shoes and textiles, ceramics from Uppsala Ekeby, and mechanical industry with Nymans Verkstäder.
In autumn 2024 the museum closed. It is now to be rebuilt in the Centralpaviljongen (Central Pavilion) in Karl Johansgårdarna on Svartbäcksgatan 52, and the association hopes to be able to open there in autumn 2026. A large part of the old exhibitions is to be saved and supplemented with new material.
