About the museum
The Bezirksmuseum «Höfli» dates back to 1947 and is run by the Historische Vereinigung des Bezirks Zurzach. It is housed in the Höfli, the former canons' house St. Fulgentiushof, next to the Verenamünster in the centre of Bad Zurzach. Today the entrance leads through the restaurant in the building.
The focus of the exhibition is on prehistoric and early historic finds from the whole district, but above all from Roman Tenedo, the ancient Zurzach. Excavations in the area of the bypass road yielded new insights there into the time when Roman military was stationed in the region. A model of a soldiers' quarters (contubernium) and a model of the late Roman fort Kirchlibuck illustrate the soldiers' daily life.
Further topics are Saint Verena, whose grave was the starting point of the market town, the Zurzach fairs, castles and crafts, the textile and soda industries, and the discovery of the thermal spring. A separate section is devoted to the history of the corset, based on pieces from the Triumph collection. The museum also includes a salt drilling tower in the Unterfeld and the Barzmühle at the Rheinknie.
