About the museum
The village museum of Mumpf is located in a former threshing shed near the Ankengasse stop, directly beneath the railway viaduct. Between 2008 and 2012, the shed was extended and restored by retired volunteers through unpaid labour; in 2012 it became the present museum. Around 95 percent of the exhibits come from the village itself, a few from the neighbourhood.
The exhibition leads through the roots and former ways of life of this Fricktal village on the Rhine. In the outdoor area and on the first floor, the focus is on agriculture, forestry, movable property and heavy crafts; on the second floor, on kitchen, living, people, crafts, mineral resources, fishing and a small library. A digital station offers historic photos of people, work, houses, school, church and railway, audio documents with legends and village songs, and films, for example on salmon fishing around 1900, on rafting on the Rhine and on the construction of the Riburg-Schwörstadt power plant.
A branch of the museum in the community hall is devoted to viticulture in Mumpf: in the former “Moschti” (press house), among other things, there is a model of a press beam as it stood in the Mumpf wine press until 1906. The municipality's museum commission looks after the house; a museum bistro and a bookshop with village literature round off the visit.
