About the museum
The Therwil Village Museum is housed in the former rectory, a half-timbered house from 1607 next to the Catholic church. Since its founding in 1980, the foundation "Dorfmuseum Therwil" has been dedicated to preserving, expanding and presenting Therwil's cultural heritage and collects historical objects related to the village. The Verein Historisches Therwil, which has existed since 1974 and has around 260 members, supports the museum, the cultivation of local customs and historical awareness in the village.
The permanent exhibition explains the history of the village and its buildings and brings home life around 1900 to life. One focus is exhibits from the Baloid comb factory (1915–1984), known in the village as "Kammi". There are also old craft tools, such as a lathe, liturgical objects of the Sacrament Brotherhood ("Täfeli", 1646–1946) and a selection from the rich photo collection on village history.
A special feature is the bone stamp mill of the Untere Mühle, which opened on 30 April 2011 and can be seen in action in a film. In addition to the permanent displays, there are temporary exhibitions related to the village, guided tours and events, as well as a shop.
