About the museum
In 1977, the municipality of Bottmingen made the Mathyse-Hus available to the foundation; it was renovated with a great deal of volunteer labor. The village museum was opened with a village festival from September 8 to 10, 1978. In 1983, the collection moved from the old municipal building into the renovated properties at Therwilerstrasse 16 and 18, so that all objects were under one roof.
Further sections were added later: in 1984 the bottle collection donated by Alphonse Wyss, later supplemented by his glass collection, and in 1985 the village smithy of the last Bottmingen blacksmith, Hans Würger. The foundation council then reorganized the objects into departments.
Today the museum shows the living room, kitchen, cellar and bedroom of the Mathyse-Hus, the smithy, a laundry house with washing equipment from about 1900 to 1950, agriculture, woodland and forestry, small trades, village associations, the Wyss glass collection, and a section on the Weiherschloss with its tower clock from 1720.
