About the museum
The Museo Moesano opened in 1949 in the Palazzo Viscardi in San Vittore. It collects, preserves and presents evidence of archaeological, historical and artistic interest from the Misox (Val Mesolcina) and the Calanca valley, and it stands in the middle of the village next to the collegiate church (Collegiata). It is run by the Fondazione Museo Moesano.
The exhibition spreads over several floors. The ethnographic section reconstructs, among other things, a traditional kitchen and a storeroom. One entire floor is devoted to the Magistri moesani, the architects, master builders and artists who worked mainly abroad from the 16th to the 18th century. Another section shows the extraordinary archaeological wealth of the Misox, with important finds, reconstructions of find sites, and explanatory panels and videos.
A didactic and experimental archaeology lab is available for school classes. The museum opens seasonally from mid-April to the end of October and is a member of the Musei Grigioni.
