About the museum
The non-profit association “Sammlung Ernst E. Schlatter” preserves and documents the work of graphic artist and painter Ernst Emil Schlatter (1883 Zurich – 1954 Uttwil), who lived and worked in Uttwil on Lake Constance. The foundation was laid in May 2013 by Vreni and Marco Zumkehr with the purchase of the first Schlatter paintings; for the artist’s 140th birthday they founded the association in November 2023. According to its own account, it holds what is probably the largest and most varied collection of the artist’s works in the world: posters, lithographs, paintings, watercolors and drawings.
In February 2024 the collection moved into its current home at Alte Landstrasse 8 in Uttwil. Donations from two families descended from Eduard Vontobel, mainly from the estate of the artist’s daughter Erica Vontobel-Schlatter, significantly enlarged the holdings in 2025.
In October 2026 the association opened the “Galerie Schlatter”, a permanent exhibition space where works from the collection are shown in thematic temporary exhibitions and contemporary artists also have a place. Visits are possible individually and flexibly by prior appointment.
