About the museum
In the “Brügga” in Klosters there was once a hammer mill, which the blacksmith Jakob Schröder operated until 1935. To keep this old craft and the history of the smith alive, the Schröder Schmitte was rebuilt as a fully functional replica at a new location on the Rütipromenade.
The building is privately owned; the municipality of Klosters has leased it long-term and, as with the other buildings, covers maintenance and museum operations. Together with the Heimatmuseum Nutli Hüschi and the Rohrmühle, the Schröder Schmitte forms a trilogy of historic museums within the Museums of Klosters. Since summer 2024 the smithy has been wheelchair-accessible.
On guided tours, a smith shows guests and locals the workshop and traditional blacksmithing; afterward, an apéro can be arranged.
