About the museum
At Trin, the access to the Grisons Oberland narrows, which is why the place was already strategically important in the Middle Ages. On the rocky outcrop Crap Sogn Barcazi stood a castle with a church, inhabited until the 15th century and destroyed by fire in 1470; its ruins have been secured and restored.
In the Second World War, the Swiss army and construction firms began building the Trin barrier position 1205 from 1941, the last barrier before the Alpine Redoubt: a rock fortification in the cliffs of Barcazi and Pign with several levels connected by stairs and tunnels, plus infantry bunkers, shelters and an anti-tank obstacle. The bunkers are camouflaged as water supply buildings, woodsheds or rock. Most were ready for occupation in 1943. In 1988 a 12 cm fortress mortar was added; the inventory of military monuments classifies the barrier as a site of national significance.
The Sperre Trin association was founded on 24 October 2009. Its first information day drew around 300 guests instead of the expected 50. Today the members, all volunteers, maintain the installations and guide visitors on two different tours through the rock fortifications and bunkers and to the Cold War mortar. There is also a bunker trail about 2.2 kilometres long with QR signs.
