About the museum
The Aylsham Heritage Centre stands in the grounds of St Michael's churchyard, just off the market square, next to the town's war memorial. It is run by a registered charity and supported by a Friends group.
The centre acts as one of two tourist information points in Aylsham, with leaflets about local attractions and advice for visitors. It also looks after the Aylsham Town Archives, offers sessions to help visitors research their ancestors and sells local books, photographs, original artwork and greetings cards.
The centre presents changing exhibitions about the town. Its programme includes talks, craft events, social events and guided walks and trails around Aylsham, among them a trail for families. For schools and youth groups it offers escape games based on local history, such as one about the Aylsham workhouse, and writing workshops that use historical objects.
