About the museum
The doll collection known as Dolly Mixture is shown in the visitor centre of Finlaystone Country Estate at Langbank in Renfrewshire. The estate has been the home of the MacMillan family, chiefs of Clan MacMillan, since 1929. The house itself is not open to visitors.
The collection began with dolls that the lady of the house gathered as a child and grew into an international display of more than 700 dolls collected by the MacMillan family since 1903. It was first shown in a room of the house and moved into the visitor centre in 1996.
The estate describes Dolly Mixture as a doll museum. It is one of the indoor attractions of the country estate, which also offers woodland and garden walks, a play area, farm animals and a tea room.
