About the museum
Methil Heritage Centre occupies the former Edward VIII post office on the High Street of Lower Methil. The Lower Methil Community Association started the centre, which opened in 1991 as an independent local history museum. Early funding came from the European Union Urban Programme. Fife Museums Service took over the centre in 1998, and the volunteer group Friends of Methil Heritage still helps to run it.
The centre closed for several years and welcomed the public again in 2024. Its permanent exhibition, Levenmouth Lives, covers the history of the area from a Bronze Age dagger to a local Victoria Cross. A local history archive, including the Rankin Archive of school and local photographs, can be consulted for enquiries and research.
The centre is run by OnFife, the Fife Cultural Trust. It also serves as a warm space where visitors can have a hot drink and a chat, and it shows changing displays by local artists and community groups.
