Opening hoursFree admission Wheelchair accessible

About the museum

The museum is run by volunteers of the Stewarton and District Historical Society, a Scottish charity. For 44 years it occupied a small upstairs museum in the Town House on Avenue Square. It has since moved to two larger ground-floor rooms in the Stewarton Area Centre on Avenue Street, across the corridor from the library.

The displays cover the history of Stewarton and the surrounding district, including Kilmaurs, Dunlop, Kingsford and Fenwick. They include artefacts, records, photographs, maps, school records, videos and music, with a computer area where visitors can look at the digital material. A whale’s jawbone is among the more unusual items on show.
