About the museum
Strongpoint Corbière formed an important part of the German defences of St Ouen’s Bay and has several bunker designs that are unique to Jersey. The Channel Islands Occupation Society has maintained the site since the late 1970s and restored the bunkers to their wartime condition, with displays based on accounts from soldiers who served there and returned after the war.
Visitors can see the M19 bunker for a 5 cm automatic fortress mortar, which is linked by an underground corridor to a bunker with a six-loophole heavy machine-gun turret. Depending on volunteer availability, the neighbouring restored casemate “Kanone 2”, which still holds its original 105 mm coastal defence gun, is open too. The displays also cover the forced labourers who built the site, contacts between the soldiers and nearby civilians, and an escape attempt that failed on the causeway to the lighthouse in September 1944.
The site is run by volunteers and opens only on selected Sundays. Visits can last up to two hours.
