About the museum
The Red Feather Club was built as a social club for non-commissioned officers of the American 95th Bomb Group, which was based at RAF Horham from 1943. The club opened in 1944, because the NCOs had no club of their own on the base, and it was furnished with items salvaged from bombed buildings in London, including a wooden bar with a brass rail.
The 95th flew 334 missions between May 1943 and May 1945 and was the first American bomb group to carry out a daylight raid on Berlin. The buildings passed into the care of the 95th Bomb Group Heritage Association in the 1980s and were renovated by volunteers. The association, a registered charity, runs the Red Feather Club as the official UK museum of the 95th, and all its exhibits relate only to this group.
The complex has five interconnected rooms and a separate guardroom. Displays tell the story of the group from its training in the United States to its return home, using uniforms, memorabilia, films and personal accounts of local people and servicemen.
