About the museum
Tŷ Pawb opened in 2018 in the former People's Market in Wrexham city centre. The name means "everybody's house" in Welsh, and the centre was conceived as a place for meeting, making, playing, learning and trading, where art and everyday life are intertwined. The conversion was designed by Sarah Featherstone of the architects Featherstone Young and was named Architects' Journal Retrofit of the Year in 2019. It also won the National Eisteddfod Gold Medal for Architecture that year.
The building brings together galleries, market stalls, a theatre and performance space, shops, a food court, a rooftop garden and flexible public spaces under one roof, with a multi-storey car park attached. It is part of Wrexham Council. Its creative programme presents exhibitions, commissions, performances and community projects with local, national and international artists, and it works closely with families, play workers and community groups.
Tŷ Pawb was a finalist for Art Fund Museum of the Year in 2022 and is a Visit Wales Quality Assured Visitor Attraction. The main gallery shows a changing programme of contemporary art, and there is a regular calendar of free activities, workshops and lunchtime concerts alongside the market and food court.
