Over het museum

The museum was founded in 1919 at the initiative of French military aviation and is regarded as one of the oldest aviation museums in the world. It was first installed at Chalais-Meudon, before moving in 1975 to Paris-Le Bourget airport, a symbolic site of French aviation where Charles Lindbergh landed in 1927 after crossing the Atlantic.

The collections trace the history of flight, from the first balloons and the pioneers to space exploration. They are displayed in several halls and on the tarmac: combat and passenger aircraft, helicopters, missiles, rockets and satellites. Among the best-known exhibits are Concorde, the Boeing 747 and the Ariane rocket.

The museum is a public institution attached to the Ministry of the Armed Forces. It also offers a planetarium, a control tower, simulators and a play area for children. Works to redevelop the museum’s surroundings continue until autumn 2027.
