Over het museum
Cloth-making in Esch-sur-Sûre has a long history: as early as the 16th century there was a weavers’ guild here. In 1807 Martin Schoetter-Greisch had a fulling machine built, and about ten years later a spinning machine followed. In 1866 the business was expanded so that every step, from wool to finished cloth, could be carried out on site.
In 1975 the mill finally closed. Afterwards, wool processing resumed on the same site, and the craft tradition has continued ever since in a contemporary form; high-quality woolen fabrics are once again made here today.
The building now houses the nature park center of the Öewersauer Nature Park. The museum displays restored machines from the mill, which are demonstrated in operation during guided tours on request. There is also an exhibition on the nature park, regularly changing textile exhibitions, textile workshops and a shop selling fabrics woven on site and regional products.
