Over het museum
The Krkonošské muzeum (Giant Mountains Museum) came into being around 1891, when an exhibition of antiques was held in Jilemnice and its proceeds were to help buy a cabinet for the collections. In 1894 a local ethnographic exhibition followed, and a museum and historical department was formed. The museum moved several times, among other places to the old town hall, a school, a savings bank and the deanery. From 1932 it has borne the name Krkonošské muzeum.
In 1953 the museum moved into Jilemnice chateau, where it remains today. Since 1979 it has been managed by the Správa Krkonošského národního parku (Krkonoše National Park Administration), and since 2013 the town of Jilemnice has also taken part in its operation. In 2019 the town renovated the garden house, where new exhibitions were created.
The museum today uses the chateau (house no. 75), the former brewery (house no. 1) and the garden house. Its collection holds almost 14,000 inventory numbers.
