Over het museum
Stará Aerovka is part of the Letecké muzeum Kbely (Kbely Aviation Museum), which is operated by the Military Historical Institute Prague. The exhibition is housed in two historic hangars on the former site of the Aero factory at Letňany airfield, about 900 metres from the museum's main site. The hangars were restored as part of the Cultural Heritage and Contemporary Art programme, with support from an EEA and Norway Grants fund.
Hangar no. V was built in 1940–1941 when new premises were being prepared for the Aero company. Hangar no. VI was originally built as early as 1920 on the edge of the Kbely airfield as the company's first hangar for assembling and test-flying aircraft; it was dismantled and moved when the new complex in Letňany was built.
Hangar no. V now houses an exhibition of bomber, ground-attack and fighter-bomber aircraft from the Second World War to the 1980s, and hangar no. VI houses an exhibition on the history of the Aero company. Both exhibitions open at the same time as the Kbely museum site, and admission is free.
