Over het museum

Moirlanich Longhouse stands in Glen Lochay, about a mile north-west of Killin. It is a cruck-framed byre dwelling of the late 18th to mid 19th century, in which the family quarters were separated from the cattle byre by a wooden partition. The Robertson family, Gaelic-speaking smallholders, lived here until the last member died in 1968.

The house keeps many original features, including the hanging chimney (hingin' lum), box beds, a Scotch dresser and layer upon layer of patterned wallpaper. The byre, which once housed three milking cows, now displays farm tools and shows the cruck frame and a glimpse of the original thatch under the tin roof.

The National Trust for Scotland bought the property in 1992 and conserved it. A separate Tin Bothy holds an exhibition of original objects from the house and byre, including rare items of the family's clothing found in the roof space. The building is listed Category A.
