Om museet
The Ayres National Nature Reserve occupies a broad area of sand dunes and lichen heath at the northern tip of the Isle of Man, near the village of Bride. It is one of the island’s best places to watch wildlife, with skylarks, wildflowers and lizards on land and gannets and seals offshore.
The Nature Discovery Centre, run by the Manx Wildlife Trust off Ballaghennie Road, is the starting point for the reserve’s walking trails. Interpretation panels and a video explain the habitats, from the dunes to the heath, and the plants and animals that live in them. Some objects can be handled with care, and families can borrow a Nature Discovery rucksack with equipment and activity ideas. A nature trail can be followed using a QR code.
The centre is staffed by volunteers during the summer season, and the reserve itself and the viewing platform with binoculars are open all year.
