Om museet

The Dalešice brewery is first documented in 1609 in the Moravian land registers and probably came into being at the end of the 16th century. The oldest parts of today's complex date from the early Baroque. In 1882 Baron Anton Dreher bought the estate and the brewery and modernised the business considerably. The last batch was brewed on 19 August 1977, and operations ended.

The brewery became famous in 1980, when Jiří Menzel's film Postřižiny, based on stories by Bohumil Hrabal, was filmed there. In 1999 the present owners acquired the site at a repeated auction, and by 2002 they had reconstructed it; after that, beer was brewed there again. The Muzeum rakousko-uherského pivovarnictví (Museum of Austro-Hungarian Brewing) was founded on the site in 2003.

The collection includes 19th-century brewery equipment, such as brewing kettles, malt towers and a steam engine, as well as objects from the film Postřižiny and an exhibition on the history of the village of Dalešice. The tour route was renewed in 2023 as a multimedia tour: characters from the film are projected onto the walls, and upstairs there is a small cinema showing a film about the history of the brewery. The tour leads through the old boiler house, the engine room and the restored historic brewhouse.
