Om museet

The Katharinenturm recalls the St. Catherine's Church of Heilsbronn Abbey, which was built from the 13th century for the abbey's secular servants, who were not allowed to enter the minster. It was extended to the west around 1420. After the Reformation, no services were held from 1600 onward; in the 18th century the church served once more as the "Obere Kirche" (Upper Church) while the minster was being restored.

Afterward, Margrave Carl Alexander of Ansbach and Bayreuth had a residential tower built on the west part of the church to generate rental income. Its floors were lived in until the 1980s; then the town acquired the building and set up the municipal library.

On the top floor the Heimatverein Heilsbronn displays its local history rooms. The former tower keeper's apartment shows objects of middle-class domestic culture from the 18th to the 20th century, and the fourth floor holds a musical instrument collection. Operation and visitor services are provided by the museum "Vom Kloster zur Stadt" (From Abbey to Town) and the Heimatverein.
