Om museet
The museum’s roots go back to a history association for the Markgräflerland founded in 1913. The collection moved several times before settling in 1986 in the former municipal granary on Wallstraße.
It displays everyday objects from the life of a rural small town as well as estates of prosperous factory-owning families. A special focus is the holdings of the noble Roggenbach family, who had lived in Schopfheim since early modern times and produced figures from the history of Baden-Württemberg and Germany. Also on view are items relating to Johann Peter Hebel and the Baden Revolution of 1848, as well as works by honorary citizens Gustav Wilhelm Friesenegger and Hans Theo Baumann.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are changing special exhibitions, guided tours and events. The Museumsgesellschaft Schopfheim supports the museum.
