About the museum
The founder, Jackob Barnea, laid the foundation in 1983 with a simple room housing five vintage cars. Three years later he had expanded three floors of a Vienna car park into Vienna's first museum of automobiles. In 1997 he finally realized his vision: a disused silk weaving mill in Gramatneusiedl became the Automobil- und Motorradmuseum.
More than 150 vehicles are on display here, most of them vintage cars, some from marques that no longer exist, alongside sports cars and convertibles. The museum sees itself as Austria's largest private vehicle museum set in the countryside and divides its collection into sections for automobiles, sports and exclusive cars, small cars, and motorcycles, tricycles, scooters and mopeds. There are also bicycles, children's cars, a small military memorabilia display and an exhibition of nostalgic spare parts and accessories, complemented by a vintage car archive.
The museum belongs to the Oldtimertreff Wien, which also rents out vintage cars for weddings, film shoots and rallies.
