About the museum

The Burgenland Wedding Museum grew out of the passion of wedding baker and pastry chef Aloisia Bischof for the tradition of Burgenland wedding pastries. In the past, friends and relatives of the bride and groom baked the cakes and pastries together, with the wedding baker distributing the work. Aloisia Bischof wanted to preserve this custom and founded her Mehlspeiskuchl (pastry kitchen) with Kaffeestub'n (coffee parlour) in Badersdorf.

The museum opened in April 2015 and is directly attached to the business. It is housed in a small farmhouse; among other things, it shows a laid wedding table, sleeping and living areas, and pictures on the theme of weddings. The exhibition answers questions about how people celebrated in southern Burgenland in the past, what clothing they wore and which customs were part of it.

The visit combines well with a stop at the Kaffeestub'n, where cakes and regional pastries are served.
