About the museum
In 1965, several committed residents of Unterwart founded the association “Unterwarter Heimathaus – Alsóöri Otthon”. Its aim was, and still is, to collect, preserve and exhibit in a museum objects of cultural-historical, artistic, scientific and folkloric significance from Unterwart and the nearby area.
Over the decades, numerous documents, books and pictures have accumulated, but above all agricultural and household tools, implements, household goods of all kinds and traditional costumes. The objects are displayed in two houses on Obere Hauptstraße and are cared for and explained by members of the association.
Unterwart lies in southern Burgenland near Oberwart and is a centre of the Burgenland Hungarian ethnic group, which is why the association also bears a Hungarian name.
