About the museum
Lembach's local history museum is housed in the municipal office building on Schulstrasse, which formerly served as a primary school. It is run by the market municipality and looked after on a voluntary basis by a curator.
One focus is the Upper Austrian Peasants' War of 1626, whose fighting began in Lembach on 17 May 1626. Another theme is linen production in the Mühlviertel, shown with tools and equipment such as a loom, spinning wheel and reel.
Reliefs depict the market town of Lembach around 1500 and around 1900, while a model of a Mühlviertel farmstead and models of old agricultural machinery and tools offer insight into earlier life in the village. Also on display are the Olympic gold medal and other awards of Lembach native Alfons Dorfer, who won Olympic gold in the two-man canoe (K-2) in 1936 together with Adolf Kainz. The museum is accessible all year round by telephone appointment; on selected Sundays the municipality also offers open days.
