About the museum
The Kaufmannsmuseum is housed in a former department store in Haslach and gives an impression of shopping around 1920, when shops in many places still worked in a similar way into the 1960s. After it closed, the shop was set up as a museum.
The centerpiece is a fully equipped general store with colonial goods and everyday items. On display are original packaging and brand-name products of the 19th and 20th centuries, such as those of Manner, Stollwerck or Hirsch-Seife, as well as advertising boards, enamel signs and earlier shopping aids.
The shop is complemented by themes such as merchant training, office work around 1900, and the history of advertising and packaging. The museum is run by the association Kultur in der Fabrik; it belongs to the Verbund Oberösterreichischer Museen and the Mühlviertler Museumsstraße. Due to renovation it will remain closed in 2026; reopening is planned for May 2027.
