About the museum
The bicycle museum opened in the cellar of Schloss Vösendorf in 2000, shortly after the municipality had revitalised the long-dilapidated palace. It shares the building with the Historical Museum of the market town but has its own collection.
The exhibition is divided into four areas: the technical development of the bicycle, special technical rarities, cycling sport, and bicycle culture from the past to the present. It begins with a pedal-less running machine by the Viennese firm Burg from 1820. Alongside it are penny-farthings, military bicycles, old racing bikes, plastic bicycles, bicycle rickshaws and bakers' cargo bikes.
An extensive cycling-sport section shows items from several centuries, complemented by advertising posters and memorabilia from cycling clubs.
