About the museum

The Brunnbauerhof in the Pram valley is a typical Innviertel four-sided farmstead, first documented in 1532 as "Prunbaur". The oldest part of the building is over 200 years old. In 1995, the farm became the first Innviertel open-air museum.

The farmhouse is built of timber blockwork, joined by two masonry stable buildings and a large barn with an impressive timber-frame construction. A farm chapel, a fish pond and a bake house, in which bread is still baked on special occasions, complete the protected ensemble. The largely preserved original furnishings from the period between 1806 and 1910 convey how the farm's inhabitants once lived and worked – at a time when farmhands and maids still lived under the same roof as the farming family and horses were the most important helpers.

The museum is run by the non-profit association "Innviertler Freilichtmuseum Brunnbauerhof". The farm also serves as an event venue: musicians' get-togethers, poetry readings, theatre performances and traditional events such as the annual Leonhardiritt in November enliven the grounds; a Martini market takes place every two years. A folder of transcribed letters from the farm's former inhabitants offers insight into their thoughts and outlook.
